NFJ Inorganic High Temperature Secondary Binder

Nowadays, the friction materials used in the cars and trains in the world are becoming loose, porous, light and low organics content. Meanwhile the bonding property of the inorganic ingredients must be improved. In attempt to save energy, decrease carbon emission and develop environmental friendly materials, by several years’ research and development, we have succeeded in modifying the NJF light high aluminum bauxite for the friction and sealing materials.

Product Description

Nowadays, the friction materials used in the cars and trains in the world are becoming loose, porous, light and low organics content. Meanwhile the bonding property of the inorganic ingredients must be improved. In attempt to save energy, decrease carbon emission and develop environmental friendly materials, by several years’ research and development, we have succeeded in modifying the NJF light high aluminum bauxite for the friction and sealing materials. The modified aluminum bauxite not only have high thermal resistance, lower density, porous and certain plasticity, but also possess excellent wear resistance and impact resistance. It doesn’t expand at high temperature and shrink at low temperature. With increasing temperature, the modified aluminum bauxite can provide a second bonding effect, decrease the slipping during braking and improves the braking stability under high temperature.

Application Scope

1. Manufacturing principle

The NFJ light and modified bauxite is made of high content aluminum bauxite with special structure. It is fabricated into rough, loose, porous, plastic and low-density material through special foaming process. We can produce the modified aluminum bauxite with different particle sizes and densities to meet the costumers’ requirements.

2. It can greatly reduce the dosage of organic binder because of its good compensation characters for the organic binder

(1) The NFJ light and modified bauxite has good plasticity. It can deform during compressing process. During the braking, it becomes more and more viscous with the increasing temperature, enhances the ductility of the friction materials, and decreases the slipping under high temperature. As we all know, the viscosity of organic blinder become weak at high temperature, therefore the NFJ light and modified bauxite can substitute the organic blinder to some extent, and it can act as additional binder and decrease the dosage of organic blinder. Generally, the addition of two portion of the NFJ product can reduce one portion of the organic blinder.

(2) Facilitate the homogeneous mixture of compounds in the friction material

Because the modified NFJ aluminum bauxite has small particle size, rough surface, low density and porous structure, it can easily disperse in the friction material. The viscosity of NFJ product becomes bigger as the temperature increases, which prevents the slipping during the braking at high temperature.

(3) Improve the ductility and impact resistance of the friction material

The NFJ light and modified bauxite can use together with various fibers. When being compressed, it can deform and still keep a good affinity with other fibers and strengthen the ductility of other fiber and increase the impact resistance of the friction material.

(4) Enhance the sealing property of the sealing material

The NFJ light and modified bauxite has a good performance in the sealing material. It can greatly reduce the dosage of organic binder. Since it does not expand at high temperature and does not shrink at the low temperature, it can reach an excellent sealing result.

(5) Easy demould and good surface smoothness

The NFJ light and modified bauxite has a low density, good dispersion, easy demould and good surface smoothness after demould. Moreover, it has a low density and decreases the weight of the friction material.

(6) Improve the wear resistance of friction material

Since the NFJ light and modified bauxite has a hardness of 5~7 in Mons’ hardness scale and possesses fine particle size, good dispersion, high thermal resistance, it provides an excellent wear resistance.

4. Attentions

Costumers can choose a suitable NFJ light and modified bauxite with different diameter particle and different density. The NFJ product with fine particle, low density and homogeneous dispersion forms binding networks. It doesn’t reduce, but increase the braking properties of friction materials even at high temperatures. It not only improves the qualities of the friction materials, but also decreases the cost. It is now one of the ideal environmental-friendly friction materials.

(1)The most suitable adding content of the NFJ bauxite is between 8~12 %. While using this product, it is necessary to reduce the dosage of the organic binder in order to prevent the severe wear of friction materials at the high temperature. When the NFJ bauxite is used in the friction material and sealing material, the compression force should be increased to improve its binding strength with other ingredients and its flexibility at the high temperature.

(2) It is necessary to increase the compression pressure suitably. The larger the compression pressure, the larger the deformation of the NFJ bauxite and the higher the strengthening effect.

(3) The hardness of NFJ bauxite reaches 5~7 in Mons’ hardness scale. Therefore, it can substitute Al2O3 powders, nutshell powders and other ingredients in the friction material.

5. Packing and storage

Storage conditions: rain-proof; moisture-proof; put in good order.

Packing: double-layer packing (inner plastic bag and composite paper bag outside), 25 kg per bag.
